What’s in a name?

Beyond the word term definition as “sea shining blue”, MarLucBlu is an abbreviation of the first, middle, and last names of Ms. Glenn’s late grandmother, Marilyn. A fierce example of overcoming obstacles, Marilyn was of the Greatest Generation. She was an independent thinker and an activist who lovingly supported her husband through his military career that survived over two wars and demanded living in more than a dozen zip codes in a span of two decades, including the country of Turkey where while stationed during the 1960s she served as a Gray Lady for the American Red Cross.

Marilyn was a lover of music, Jazz in particular, whose favorites included Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong. Raising three children and staying active in community while her husband worked as a Pilot in the United States Airforce, she remained present and strong for her family, finding ways to inspire, humor, and nurture through times of great turmoil and uncertainty.

Diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis just before 1970 while living in Alexandria, VA, she became active about awareness of the disease, counseling others in the DC area who received the same diagnosis; she was recognized by the National MS Society as Mother of the Year, receiving an award at the United States Senate in 1969. Marilyn lived bravely until 1986, her legacy was survived at that time by a beloved husband, two sons, one daughter, and two granddaughters.
